Apgar campground, Glacier national Park, Montana

Well Scott, the good news is, there was no problem getting a spot to camp inside the park. On a Friday no less. On the big weekend that the parks are not charging any entry fee- free entrance to all! It gets even better Scott; every site is a pull through, so you could park anywhere you like and not have to back up your castle on wheels. Can you be here tomorrow?

With a little luck we'll be exploring the park with less people starting Monday. Today we drove to Bowman Lake, an out of the way spot which requires 16 miles of gravel road. We expected no one to be there, but ,alas, it was like Disneyland. Beautiful area though.

We're hiking, biking, cooking s'mores, living the good life. We haven't seen any wildlife yet to speak of, but on the hike today, we heard something we couldn't identify. We decided it was a baby of some sort and decided to hightail it out of there before mama came. We saw fresh bear scat on the trail too.

More exploring tomorrow.

  1. Dave/Sue: Apgar SUCCESS! Any water and/or power connections?
Bowman Lake road....I have checked it out on line numerous times, and want to be there (minus RV). So many on-line comments RAVE about it as best ever site in Glacier! What did you think of it and the road when using your truck? I thought I read 6 miles, not 16 miles of gravel. Hmmm!
We are doing all-nighters of driving, expecting to be there by Monday.

  2. We were there late June, and snow was on ALL hills not road, and Going-to-Sun road in it last days of being closed. Don't miss driving it...even though must leave RV behind. Love your picture of Lake McDonald.

  3. Hi Dave and Sue, your posts always make me smile. The National Park free entry weekend is a great opportunity. Brian and I went to Mineral King in Sequoia NP this weekend to take advantage of it. Even with 25 miles driving in on a winding one lane road the trails were crowded with hikers. Glad you're enjoying the good life so much. We just drank the last of your wine, that we had at our house, this evening.

    1. I hope you had a great time at the park. I'd give you the combination to my wine cellar but I don't trust Brian. at least not that much.
